The Siege of Gondor and the Battle of Pelennor Fields are iconic moments in The Lord of the Rings, and a dedicated LEGO builder has now brought this epic scene to life in one of the most ambitious LEGO projects ever: a jaw-dropping recreation of Minas Tirith.
Stefano Mapelli, also known as SteBrick, has designed a massive LEGO MOC (My Own Creation) inspired by the White City of Gondor. Dubbed "The Seven Rings: Part A", this incredible build consists of nearly 100,000 bricks, making it a masterpiece that rivals even official LEGO sets.
A fortress of bricks and details
Measuring over 7.6 feet long, 3.8 feet wide, and 4.3 feet tall, this model is not for the faint-hearted. The build is divided into seven modular layers, making it easier to construct, transport, and display. Each ring of Minas Tirith is built with a mix of visible bricks for stunning detail and structural bricks for stability, ensuring that this model stands as strong as the fictional city it’s based on.
Stefano’s build doesn't just include the iconic architecture of Minas Tirith. He has recreated the city’s dramatic siege with an army of minifigures, including Orcs, Gondor soldiers, Gandalf, Pippin, and the Witch-King atop a terrifying Fellbeast. Even Denethor, with his infamous meal of tomatoes and chicken, makes an appearance at the topmost tier of the city.
A project designed for builders
Recognizing the scale of this project, Stefano has made it accessible for LEGO enthusiasts by dividing it into manageable steps. The instructions and brick lists for "The Seven Rings" are sold separately for each layer, allowing builders to collect bricks over time. This thoughtful approach makes it possible to build a colossal LEGO model without overwhelming your budget or storage space.
Additionally, Stefano offers a smart cost-saving tip: while visible bricks need to match the specified colors, structural bricks can be any color, as they remain hidden. This allows builders to use spare bricks from their own collections and reduce overall costs. For those who want to save even more, an alternate version of the base without decorative tiles is also available, reducing the total brick count by 8,771 pieces.
Join the LEGO community in creating Minas Tirith
Stefano has designed this model not just as a static display piece but as a modular, exhibition-ready creation. With the ability to showcase individual layers, builders can share their progress with others while continuing to work on the entire model. It’s a testament to the collaborative and creative spirit of the LEGO community.
Is this the ultimate LEGO Lord of the Rings MOC?
With official LEGO sets like Rivendell and Barad-dûr capturing fans' attention, Stefano’s Minas Tirith takes fan creations to a whole new level. While the instructions are priced at approximately $320 (€300), the level of detail and modular design make this a worthy investment for die-hard Lord of the Rings and LEGO fans alike.
